Cbank warns banks about risks of new blocking of foreign VPNs
MOSCOW, Aug 27 (PRIME) -- The Russian central bank has said a new blocking of foreign VPN services is possible and the regulator plans to consult with financial institutions about the matter, a central bank spokesperson told PRIME late on Thursday.
“The letter was sent to a number of financial institutions. The central bank finds important to hold a consultation with the financial institutions to avoid violation of their operating reliability in case of blocking on the territory of Russia…of foreign VPN services,” the spokesperson said.
In June, the communications service started muting such VPN services as VyprVPN and Opera VPN due to a threat of skirting the limitations of access to child pornography, suicidal, drug promoting and other banned content.
